Buildings are where we spent nearly 90% of our time and they account for 25% of California’s greenhouse gas emissions. The technology currently exists to not only fully decarbonize the state’s existing stock of multifamily buildings, but to do so in a way that lowers energy costs for both owners and residents and improves resident quality of life. Highly efficient, all-electric buildings equipped with solar panels and battery storage systems provide year-round comfort, healthier indoor air quality, and resilience against power shutoffs and rising energy costs.
Affordable housing providers in the Bay Area are eligible to take advantage of the following programs to begin making the shift:
The Bay Area Multifamily Building Enhancements (BAMBE) program offers no-cost technical assistance and at least $750/unit in incentives for comprehensive energy efficiency and electrification retrofits.
The Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing (SOMAH) program provides financial incentives to substantially offset the cost of a solar PV system at qualified multifamily properties.
